According to the policy adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact info a domain is registered with must be correct and up to date at all times. In addition, this info is openly accessible on WHOIS websites and while this may be okay for organizations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, since anybody can see their names and their personal email and home addresses, especially in an age when identity fraud isn’t that infrequent. This is why domain name registrars have introduced a service that conceals the details of their clients without altering them. The service is referred to as Whois Privacy Protection. If it is activated, people will see the details of the domain registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they make a WHOIS enquiry. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic top-level domain name extensions, but it’s still not possible to hide your details with some country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Website Hosting

If you order a website hosting package from us, you will be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domains provided that their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain name and add Whois Privacy Protection during the registration process or you can activate the service for any of your domain names at any moment afterwards via the Hepsia Control Panel. The process is exceptionally easy – once you log in, you’ll need to go to the Registered Domains section where you will notice a list of all the domains that you’ve registered with us. For each one of them you will see an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon, which will let you know whether the service is activated or not. By clicking it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can turn off the service if it is currently active.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you would like to conceal the contact information for your domain name and you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you’ll be able to add our Whois Privacy Protection service either during the signup procedure or at any time later via your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is optional and can be activated with a couple of mouse clicks from the Control Panel’s Registered Domains section where all the domains that you’ve registered with our company will be listed in alphabetical order. You can order Whois Privacy Protection for any of the Top-Level Domain extensions that support the service by simply clicking the “Whois Privacy Protection” logo to the right of each domain name. In the same fashion, you can also renew the Whois Privacy Protection service or disable it – in case you want to transfer a domain to another registrar company and you need the actual email associated with the domain name to be visible.
