Every single PC or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software which communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripherals such as a mouse or a printer, and any applications that are installed on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a server, each and every app runs within the parameters defined by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, and so on. This goes for both standard site scripts and server-side software like a media server. If a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, so you can set up a different software environment on a single machine.

We offer you three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs on the market and we offer all three of them instead of just one since we realize that you may want to install some software with specific requirements regarding the Operating System it shall run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there are different software programs you can install on the server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS in case you would like to use one and for this reason we offer several Control Panels as well. In the event you decide that you need a different OS, our technical support can quickly wipe the current one and install the one that you want. We also offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

The dedicated server plans that we offer come with as many as three different Operating Systems to pick from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license charges, but they are also regarded as the most stable and safe OSs. We supply three different ones for the reason that each one of them is backed by a different community. The packages that you can add on your server are different and this could matter if you want to install some piece of software with particular requirements about the hosting environment. In this light, the hosting Control Panel which you can select for the dedicated server is also determined by the OS that you will choose. You can pick any of the three Operating Systems throughout the order procedure, however if needed, we can always set up the server once again with another one upon your request. As an optional service that you can add to the package any time, we can update the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as risk-free as possible.
